Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski Speaks On Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski is supporting all those affected by the massive collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge that prompted a local state of emergency on Tuesday, March 26.

The bridge collapsed when it was struck by a 948-foot cargo ship heading to Singapore, sending multiple cars into the water below around 1:30 a.m.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott declared a state of emergency around 9:30 a.m.

County Executive Johnny Olszewski posted a statement of support on X a short time later:

“This morning’s incident is devastating, and our first and most important priority right now is — and will continue to be — search, rescue and recovery,” Olszewski writes.

“Thank you to the selfless first responders and those who came from all over Maryland, working tirelessly though the night and providing invaluable aid during this horrific tragedy.”

The investigation was ongoing. The FBI did not find specific and credible information suggesting ties to terrorism.
